I have human resources problem that I need to deal with. Someone in my employ was picked up for involvement in criminal activity. It turns out that he’d been using his position in my company as a way to carry out these crimes. Recently I found out that the authorities had been secretly investigating him for several years and decided to prosecute.
Having been a little naive and trusting regarding people, now I feel very betrayed and hurt by the fact that I let this man work for me for so many years and all the time – he’d used his managerial position in MY COMPANY to steal from me and other people. Now the investigation is over and he was found guilty of several crimes but he was let off with a warning, a slap on the wrist by the authorities and some probation time. I still feel a little hurt and I’ve lost all trust in him.
But now that the trial is over – he shows back up to work and expects to still have his job. What do I do? Can’t I fire him? Doesn’t it seem weird that he could go back to work for me and my company when we were victims of his criminal activity? I feel funny about it because some of his co-workers are welcoming him back to the office with open arms. Am I such a bad employer that they think his ripping me off was justified in their eyes? Are they ripping me off too? I think I paid him pretty well for his service for the years he worked for me. I don’t think I want to pay him anymore since he stole from me. What do I do about Charlie Rangel?
